Let’s be honest: if your preaching is totally out of conversation with the RCL — you don’t use RCL resources, you don’t check in on where the RCL is, or maybe you use a totally different lectionary — then the pericopes database as I’ve entered it isn’t of much use to you. Yes, you could add your own pericopes if you want, and maybe you will (see below). But you also might decide it’s simpler and more useful to just use the “chapters of the Bible” database to catalog your resources. Yes, you’ll end up with resources in there that speak to, say, the passage at the beginning of the chapter when you’re preaching the end, but it’ll get you pretty close to what you need. I’ve set up this dashboard for that use case. If you decide, though, that you want to use the pericopes page, you might be better served by the “Playful RCL Preacher” dashboard.

Deleting blocks from this page will not delete the databases they reference — but if you’re worried, just duplicate this page before you start editing. That way, the original will still be there if you need to start over.

Do you use an alternative lectionary (like the Narrative Lectionary, the Women’s Lectionary, or something else)? Would you like to see this resource adapted for that? Let me know!

Here, you’ll find any projects where the type of work is “sermons” and the date is in the future. Add new pages here (using the “sermon” template) to plan your upcoming sermons and/or series.
Since I designed this resource primarily with lectionary preachers in mind, I don’t have the “chapters” relationship already setup. You’ll have to put it in. It’s really easy, though.
On the other hand, if you decide you still want to use “pericopes” and you’ll just add the ones you need, see the instructions on the right.
Below, you’ll find any projects where the type of work is “Bible study” and the date is in the future. Add new pages here to write your Bible studies.
If you are using the “chapters” method, the instructions on the left. You won’t need to repeat them here, since it’s the same database (filtered differently), but you will need to click the … on the right and unhide “chapters” and hide “pericopes.” If you are simply adding pericopes, see below.
Sermons and Bible studies aren’t the only things on your plate! Below are all of your “projects” where the date is in the future. (You can filter to just “papers” if you want — click those blue horizontal lines, click the “type of work” dropdown, and uncheck what you don’t want.)
